Obituary of Violet M. Kianos

Violet M. "Vi" Kianos, 95, of 154 Indiana Avenue, died Wednesday May 5, 2021, in Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing. An area resident most of her life, she was born June 24, 1925, in Philadelphia, PA, a daughter of the late Gust and Kristina Kotsaqis Spero. She was a 1944 graduate of Jamestown High School. In earlier years she was employed by a local optometrist Dr. Harvey. Following graduation, she was employed by Jamestown General Hospital as a switchboard operator until 1946. She and her husband owned and operated several local restaurants including Jim and Vans, Jim's Texas Hots and The Ritz Restaurant. In 1975 she began working for WCA Hospital as evening dietary supervisor retiring in 1993. She was an active member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church for more than 50 years. She served as past president of the Ladies Erene Society and treasurer for 18 years and member of St Nicholas Fellowship. Her other memberships include 100 Member Club, Kappa Sigma Sorority and donated her time to the Cancer and Heart Associations. Surviving are two sons James (Darla) Kianos of Sinclairville and Robert (Michelle) Kianos of Toms River, NJ; eleven grandchildren Michael Kianos, David (Marcy) Kianos, Gregory (Michelle) Kianos, Lisa (Kevin) Connelly, Genevieve Kianos, Robert Kianos, Jr., Frank Kianos, Richard Kianos, Daryl (Rebecca) Frost, Tim Frost and Danielle Frost; fourteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband James Kianos, Sr., whom she married May 26, 1946 and who died August 5, 1986; a sister Catherine Petro and a brother Paul Spero. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from 3-6 p.m. Sunday in St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church where masks are required, and social distancing must be observed. A Trisagion Prayer Service will be led at 6 p.m. Sunday in the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Erene Society, c/o St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Mt.
