Obituary of Margaret L. Anderson

Margaret "Mardi" Louise Anderson, 94, of Metcalf Avenue in Jamestown, passed away Thursday morning, May 6, 2021 in her home. Mardi was born June 12, 1926, the daughter of the late Floyd H. and Rose Sundberg Anderson. Mardi grew up in Jamestown, graduating from Jamestown High School, class of 1944. She was a member of the National Honor Society and sang in the A Cappella choir. After graduation, she attended Millard Fillmore Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1947, in Buffalo, NY where she received her RN degree. While in Buffalo, Mardi met her ex-husband, Dr. Russell J. Sacco. They moved to New York City where they both worked at Lenox Hill Hospital until their children were born. They were married for 30 years after which they divorced and Mardi assumed her maiden name. Mardi was an avid tennis player and enjoyed golf for many years. She was an active member of the Marvin Community House, Norden Women's Club, Little Theatre, the Vikings and the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club. She sang in the Chautauqua Choir at Chautauqua Institution and was a volunteer at the former WCA Hospital, both for 14 years. Mardi also enjoyed her involvement serving on the scholarship committee for the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation. Mardi is survived by her three sons: Russell J. Sacco, Esq., Geoffrey C. Sacco and John (Cathy) Sacco, MD; four grandchildren: Stacy (Scott) Sacco-Wilsey, Craig (Julia) Sacco, Emma Sacco and Ali Sacco; and two great-grandchildren, Rachel and Ryan Wilsey. Mardi is also survived by her cousin, Paula Seaburg Starner of California and her loyal friend and companion, Johannes Teigeler of Lakewood, NY. As Mardi wished, she will be cremated and there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Memorials may be made to Christ First United Methodist Church, 663 Lakeview Ave., Jamestown, NY 14701.
