Obituary of William Burns

William "Bill" Burns, 85, of Jamestown, passed away Wednesday, August 11, 2021. He was born July 3, 1936 in New York City to William and Esther Swetzer Burns, and has been an area resident since moving to The Resource Center residential services in 1983. Throughout the years Bill was an active member of the Jamestown community. He was a member of the Boy Scouts and enjoyed Special Olympics bowling. In his younger years, he would take part in any walking fundraisers that were going on. He also enjoyed mini vacations, especially if there was a reenactment to attend or camping involved. Bill was a frequent patron of the Prendergast library for new magazines. He attended Senior Adult Day Hab to be with his friends. It was here that Bill would enjoy doing his drawings and would never miss a day. He was well known for his Mardi Gras bead collection. Bill was friendly to all but was particularly fond of his friend, Sandra. Give the man a cup of coffee, ice cream or a peanut butter cup and he would exchange it for a smile that would warm the heart. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 19th in the new Section B of Lake View Cemetery. The Rev. Carmen Perry will officiate. Visitation will not be observed.
