Obituary of Karen B. DeJoseph

Karen B. DeJoseph, 65, of Bemus Point, NY, passed away on Wednesday August 18, 2021, in UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA, with her daughter by her side. A lifelong area resident, she was born March 5, 1956, in Jamestown, NY, a daughter of Edward C. and Patricia Emond Hanson, Sr. Karen was a 1974 graduate of Falconer Central School and earned her bachelor's and master's degree in art education from Buffalo State College. She had worked as a substitute art teacher for several area schools including the Bemus Point Central School System. Being very artistic and creative, she enjoyed doing all sorts of artwork such as painting, drawing, sculpting, and sewing. She enjoyed photography and doing interior design decorating, baking, cooking, and tending to her garden. She also had a soft heart for animals, rescuing many cats and her dog "Mollie". Surviving are her parents, Edward C. and Patricia Hanson, Sr. of Frewsburg, NY, a daughter, Julia P. DeJoseph, with whom she made her home, three brothers, Edward C. (Polly) Hanson, Jr. of Frewsburg, James R. Hanson, Andrew J. (Amy) Hanson both of Jamestown, two sisters, Kathleen E. Colville of Jamestown, Kelly J. (Tom) Dermont of Findley Lake, NY, and a sister-in-law, Susie Hanson. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul B. Hanson. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, August 28, 2021, at the Family Church of Jamestown. Prior visitation will not be observed. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Family Church of Jamestown, 3130 Garfield Rd. Jamestown, NY 14701.
