Obituary of Joseph A. Griffo

Dr. Joseph A. Griffo, DDS, 91, of Jamestown, NY, peacefully went home to the Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021 while surrounded by his loving family in his home. Dr. Griffo practiced dentistry in Jamestown for 43 years, from 1956 until his retirement in 1999. He was born November 5, 1929, in Dunkirk, N.Y., a son of the late Andrew and Rose Latona Griffo. He graduated from Dunkirk High School, Niagara University and Georgetown University Dental School. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a Captain in the Dental Corp – Medical Squadron, including two years in England. Dr. Griffo is survived by his wife of 67 years, Concetta J. Zaccari Griffo; their 6 children: Joseph (Joya) Griffo, Andrea Russell, Jenny (Michael) Deacon, Gary Griffo, Mary (Jon) Harmon, and Rebecca (Nick) McGrath; 16 grandchildren: Joseph, Chad and Gregg Griffo, Chan, Ryan and Scott Carlson, Alysia Russell, Tiffany Birt, Rachel Mistretta, Dr. Deann Hofer, Richard Hofer, Michael, Timothy, Jeffrey and Daniel Harmon, and Nicole McGrath; and 25 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Marie (Dennis) Cecala. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Michealina (Art) Philips; as well as two infant grandchildren, Bradley Carlson and David Harmon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11 at St. John Catholic Church. The Rev. Paul Cygan will be celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home, where a group Rosary will be prayed at 6:15 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service will be led at 6:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Shriners Hospital for Children.
