Obituary of Penny Leigh Nelson

Penny Leigh Nelson, 61, of 10 Linwood Avenue, died Tuesday October 26, 2021, in UPMC Chautauqua after a long and courageous battle with cancer. An area resident all of her life, she was born November 15, 1959, in Jamestown, a daughter of Ronald Nelson and the late Arlene Albright Kane. She was a 1977 graduate of Southwestern Central School. She was employed by the Surf Club as a waitress, Fenton Park Nursing Home as an aide, and also as a private duty caregiver and housekeeper. She enjoyed riding horses and had a green thumb that could make anything grow. Her unique personality, smile and laugh would instantly brighten a room. Surviving besides her father of Busti is a daughter Stephanie (Chris) McCleskey of Madison, AL; grandchildren Calloway McCleskey of Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota and Madison McCleskey of Madison, AL; sisters Tammy Ormond of Ashville, NY and Kristine (Chris) Powers of Frewsburg and brothers Benny (Carol) Nelson of Key largo, FL and Pete (Ann) Nelson of Busti along with 10 nieces and nephews. Besides her mother she was preceded in death by her stepmother Sharon Nelson. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home. Friends will be received from noon to 2 pm Sunday in the funeral home. Due to new COVID-necessitated policies, masks are required, regardless of immunization status.
