Obituary of Eleanor J. King

Eleanor J. King, 89, of Wesleyan St., Panama, passed away Oct. 31, 2021 at UPMC Hamot in Erie, Pa. She was born in Lakewood on Aug. 19, 1932, the daughter of the late Melvin and Geneva Bailey Johnson. Eleanor graduated from Panama Central School in 1951 and received her master's degree from SUNY Fredonia. She touched the lives of many students while she worked as a teacher for many years, at Panama Central School, retiring in 1999. Eleanor is survived by a son, Richard (Janet) King of Victor, NY; two daughters, Marcia King of Mohawk, NY and Sharon (Chuck) Reese of Cassadaga, NY; a daughter-in-law Cheryl Corbett of Fredonia; and a sister-in-law Lois King of Bear Lake, Pa. In addition, she leaves behind six grandchildren, Corey King of Rochester, Anna Vande Velde of Pittsburgh, Pa., Emily (Rob) Harris of Fredonia, Evan (Katie) Vande Velde of Niobe, Alexandria King of Philadelphia, and Matthew King of Pittsburgh, Pa. Besides her parents, Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Everett King, a son, Roger King; a son-in-law, Jack Vande Velde; and three brothers, Harold, Carl, and Kenneth Johnson. Throughout her life, she enjoyed following her children's and grandchildren's sports and musical interests. Eleanor was a member of the Panama United Methodist Church and enjoyed activities with North Harmony Senior Citizens. For many years, she also enjoyed camping with the Coachman Club and spending winters in Florida. The funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2021 at the Panama United Methodist Church. Rev. Steven Taylor, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Grant Cemetery, Niobe. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 pm today, Tuesday, Nov, 2, 2021 in the Lind Funeral Home and also for one hour prior to the service, from 10-11 am on Wednesday in the church.
