Obituary of Lyle W. Porter

Lyle W. Porter, 83, of 225 Maplecrest Avenue, Lakewood, died Thursday, November 18, 2021, in Absolut Care of Salamanca. A native of Warren, he was born April 17, 1938, a son of the late Myles and Esther Anderson Porter. He was a graduate of Sugar Grove High School. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a union carpenter by Local 66. He was a member of Lakewood Rod and Gun Club. Ever the outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and pitching horseshoes. He will always be remembered as a prankster. Surviving is his wife Georgia Coleman Porter; three children Sue (Mark) VanOrd, Tim (Tracey) Porter and Ron (Lora) Porter; four stepchildren Rick and Bill Wassman, Sherri (Dale) Carraher and Jeanine Andrews; grandchildren Adam and Ben VanOrd, Nicole Williams, Thaddeus, Kayla and Brody Porter, Brendon Andrews, Christie Fulkerson, Callie Love and Sam, Chloe, Ryan, and Jessica Wassman; several great grandchildren and a sister Betty Schreiber. He was preceded in death by two brothers Leroy "Hap" Porter and Robert Porter. Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home followed by the funeral service which will begin at 4 pm. Because of new COVID-necessitated policies, masks are required, regardless of vaccination status. The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. Burial will be in Thompson Hill Cemetery, Lander, PA at the convenience of the family.
