Obituary of Sherwood M. Johnson

Sherwood M. "Mort" Johnson, 92, of 305 Oak Street, Lakewood, died Thursday November 18, 2021, in Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing. A lifelong area resident, he was born July 24, 1929, in Jamestown, the son of the late Morton and Ellen Anderson Johnson. He was a 1947 graduate of Jamestown High school and attended Alfred Tech. Prior to his retirement he was employed by Jamestown Perforators as a shipping clerk. He earlier had worked for Kendall Refining as office manager. A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the US Air Force from 1948-51 achieving the rank of staff sergeant. He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, Thule Lodge and the American Legion. For many years he served as a Boy Scout leader. Surviving is a son Timothy Johnson of Jamestown; daughter Marcia (Daniel) Nickerson of Orchard Park and a granddaughter Jessica Nickerson of Orchard Park. He was preceded in death by his wife Donna Lewis Johnson, whom he married October 17, 1954, and who died February 1, 2009. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home where friends will be received for one hour prior to the service. Due to new COVID-necessitated policies, masks are required, regardless of vaccination status. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
