Obituary of Joyce O. Devine

Joyce Ogren Devine, 95 years old, of Jamestown, New York passed away on December 16, 2021 at the Heritage Green Rehab & Skilled Nursing Facility. Joyce was born in Jamestown on February 9, 1926, the daughter of Sidney & Margaret Hall Ogren. Joyce grew up in the Celoron, NY & Clarksburg, WV area, then once married lived in Falconer, NY where she and Carl raised their family of four children. After retirement Joyce and Carl moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where they enjoyed the nice weather, and traveling extensively across the country in their motor home visiting family and friends along the way. After her husband Carl passed away in 1997, Joyce moved to California where she lived near her daughter Susan and family for many years, eventually returning to the Jamestown area in 2011 to live near her daughter Amy and family. Joyce attended Celoron High School in Celeron, NY and Washington Irving High School in West Virginia. Joyce earned a BA in Speech Pathology from Fredonia State University (1971), and a Master's Degree in Education from Edinboro University (1974). In early years, Joyce worked at Falconer Plate Glass, Clark Supply, and Hope's Window. After furthering her education as an adult, Joyce then worked as a long-term substitute teacher at Falconer High School and Jamestown High School, as well as the Las Vegas Clark County School system & Vacaville California school system. Joyce enjoyed many hobbies with favorites being genealogy research, crocheting, needlepoint, embroidery and cross stitch, knitting, reading, and keeping a daily diary. In younger adult years Joyce sang with the Viking Chorus. Joyce loved to talk and talk when visiting with family & friends. Joyce was a member of The Church of Latter Day Saints, AAUW, DAR, Embroidery Guild, Needlepoint Guild, Red Hatters, Grange, Farm Bureau, Camping Group "The Cactus Bandits", and Gem Club. Joyce is survived by three daughters, Louise (Paul) Sutara of Virginia, Susan (Kimble) Smith of California, Amy (Albert, Jr.) of Jamestown, NY and a son, Carl Jr. (Antonia) Devine of Falconer, NY; twin brothers, Ronald (Sharon) Ogren and Donald (Rosemary) Ogren, and a sister Nancy (Dennis) Anderson; and a cousin, Betty Ogren Travis. Also surviving are four granddaughters: Adrienne (Dave Fox) Christy of Colorado, Kristine (Shawn) Revell and Katherine (Mark) Goddard, both of California, and Amanda Devine of Indiana; four grandsons: Paul Sutara III of Virginia, James Sutara of Colorado, Albert (Crystal) Christy, III of Colorado, and Joshua (Tina) Devine of Indiana; three great granddaughters, Lauren (Jacob) Chauvin, Skyler White, and Evelyn Norman and three great grandsons, Casey Sutara, Elliot Christy and Maverick Goddard; and one great-great grandson, Caleb Chauvin; and many nieces and nephews. Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, Carl M. Devine, Sr. (4/19/1997); parents, Sidney and Margaret Ogren; sisters, Shirley (Dave) Lawson and Dorothy (Russel) Lane; and nephews, Rusty, Mark and Doug Lane, and Paul Anderson. Joyce's family would like to thank all the caregivers that worked with her the past 10 years while living in the Jamestown area. All of these caregivers were so very much appreciated! Visitation will not be observed and a private service will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date. Memorials can be made to a charity of your choice.
