Obituary of Sarah J. Nelson

Sarah J. Nelson, 82, of Lakewood, NY, passed away peacefully at 3:14 am Thursday, December 23, 2021, in the Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility, surrounded by her loving family. A lifelong area resident, she was born May 18, 1939, in Jamestown, NY, a daughter of the late Rollo and Margaret Davis Farnsworth. Before her retirement she was employed as a secretary at the former Celoron Elementary School and the Lakewood Elementary School for many years. In earlier years she had worked for Blackstone Corporation. She was a member of the Lakewood American Legion Auxiliary and the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, where she loved playing tickets at both. She will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who loved spending time with her family. She also loved playing tennis with her tennis group, swimming with her swim friends and going out to lunch with the lunch bunch girls. Surviving is her high school sweetheart and husband of 63 years, Gene R. Nelson, whom she married April 5, 1958. Three daughters, Lisa (Jim) Johnson of Lakewood, Lynne Nelson of Lakewood, Jane (Tom) Pilling of Lakewood, 4 grandchildren, Kyle Johnson of Lakewood, Tyler (Alyssa) Johnson of Stockton, NY, Jacob (Shaunah)Pilling of Jamestown, Joshua (Jessica Lachner) Pilling of Lakewood, five great grandchildren, Cole Daughenbaugh, Bentley Williams, Novalyne Johnson, Brooklyn Johnson and Violet Jean Pilling. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Buster Farnsworth, John Farnsworth and a sister, Eleanor Falejczyk. The funeral will be held at 1pm Monday, December 27, 2021, in the Lind Funeral Home. Mr. Peter Dawson will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 11am – 1pm Monday, two hours prior to the service in the funeral home where face masks must be worn.
