Obituary of Betty J. Schreck

Betty Gregory Schreck, 95, of Lakewood, NY passed away on January 29, 2022 in Heritage Green Rehab & Skilled Nursing, Greenhurst, NY. Betty Jean Gregory was born May 16, 1926 in Uniontown, PA. She was the daughter of Katherine Sholtis Gregory and Constantine "Gus" Gregory. She came to Jamestown in 1935 at the age of nine from Patchogue, Long Island. Betty was married for 45 years to Clarence W. Schreck until Clare's death in 1995. Betty graduated from Jamestown High School in 1944. She was a longtime member of Lakewood United Methodist Church, Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, Chautauqua County Porcelain Artists, and a Charter Member of Jamestown Doll Study Club. At a young age Betty stepped in to help her parents care for her three younger brothers. This was the beginning of her wanting to nurture and share all she had. Betty will be remembered by her family as a very generous and giving person. No one ever went hungry around her. She loved to visit her friends weekly at each nursing home, bringing smiles to their faces with special treats, a warm hug and uplifting stories. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, Gary Gregory and a sister, Kristine who died at age one. She is survived by her brothers, Mike (Sally) Gregory, and Constantine "Greg" (Margo) Gregory; sister-in-law, Shirley Gregory; three children: Priscilla (Henry) Crisler, Terry Schreck and Paula (Danny) Taggart; stepdaughter, Anne Braun; three grandchildren: Derek (Laura) Butts, Karla and Glen Schreck and their mother Joan Sandberg; a great-granddaughter, Aria Jean Butts; and her dearest cousin, Irene Cappy. Betty was cared for in her later years by her devoted son, Terry. At her request, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center, as curing cancer is on the heart of this family, or a charity of your choice.
