Obituary of Lawrence M. Hoard

Lawrence M. "Larry" Hoard, Jr., 85, formerly of Frewsburg NY, Russell PA, and Westfield PA, died Friday, February 11, 2022 in the Lutheran Home. He was born July 12, 1936, in Jamestown, the son of the late Lawrence and Norma Sundean Hoard, Sr. He was a 1953 graduate of Jamestown High School and earned an Associates Degree from Jamestown Community College. Also, he served in the United States Marine Corps and Reserves from 1953 to 1959. Prior to his retirement he was employed by Cole Memorial Hospital in Coudersport PA as a drug and alcohol counselor. He earlier had worked for the Caron Foundation of Westfield PA, Speedy Auto Top, Detroit Top and Body, Quality Markets, and was the owner of Upholsters of Jamestown. Larry was a member and an Elder of Wiltsie Community Church. He was a member of the Gideons, serving as a lay preacher for many years. Formerly, he was a member of the JayCees and the Antique Automobile Club. He enjoyed upholstering furniture and cars, woodworking, model airplane building, and gardening. He was a loving, devoted, and faithful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and beloved friend to so many. Surviving is his wife Faye Robinson Hoard, whom he married August 31, 1984; three children, Kimberly (Larry) Sweet of Lakewood, Kristin (David) Carnovale of Indianapolis, IN, and Daniel (Peg) Hoard of Cincinnati OH; two stepchildren, Kevin (Sherilyn) Dyer of Fairmount WV and Lisa (David) Christ of Jamestown; Five grandchildren, Molly (Joseph) Kostka, Emily Sweet, Zachary and Rachel Carnovale, and Samuel Hoard; and a great grandson Sullivan Kostka. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Katy Sweet, in 2002. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday (February 19th) in the Lind Funeral Home. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
