Obituary of Dawn M. Hamby

Dawn M. Hamby, 80, of 2123 Southwestern Drive, died Tuesday, February 22, 2022 in her home. She was born August 5, 1941 in Dewittville, NY, a daughter of the late Earl and Viola Spichler Jenkins, and was a 1960 graduate of Jamestown High School. For more than 23 years, Dawn was a foster parent to over 70 children. She enjoyed reading, crafts and crocheting. She loved making afghans to give away and delighted in watching the surprise on the recipients' faces. Surviving are four children: Ralph E. Hamby, Jr. of Dubois, PA, Virginia M. Hamby of Jamestown, Richard L. Hamby of Warrenton, VA, and Robin L. Hamby of Sherman, NY; her companion, David Ross of Lakewood; eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, Kenneth Jenkins of Randolph, NY. Dawn was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. Hamby, Sr. who died July 25, 2013; a grandson, Kristopher Hamby; two brothers, Luther and Earl Jenkins; and two sisters, Jeannine Gowan and Jerri Nutting.
