Obituary of Philip G. Swanson

Philip G. Swanson, 77, of the Lutheran Retirement Home, formerly of 145 Bowen Street, died Friday May 6, 2022, in UPMC Chautauqua. A lifelong Jamestown resident, he was born March 8, 1945, a son of the late Stanley and Ellen Rice Swanson. He was a 1963 graduate of Jamestown High School where he played first chair trombone in the band. Prior to his retirement he was employed by Jamestown Public School District as a bus driver. He earlier had worked for Ethan Allen, Proto Tool, and Stronz Tire as a maintenance man. Phil had an amazing gift for repairing anything mechanical. He could fix something with nothing. In his younger age he was an accomplished pitcher in the MUNY A League. His other interests include chemistry and astronomy. Surviving are three children Michael P. (Miranda) Swanson of Bemus Point, Jill E. (Jeffrey) Nordin of North Warren and Christopher P. (Lisa) Swanson of Jamestown; seven grandchildren Carleton (Abby Paquin) Swanson, Elise Swanson, Andrew and Bryce Raymond and Jake, Gage, and Rachael Swanson; two great grandsons Lucas and Caleb Raymond and a brother Daryl (Dinah) Swanson of Clearwater, FL. He was preceded in death by his wife Deborah Chall Swanson, whom he married October 1, 1966, and who died September 22, 2021. A memorial service will be held at 1 pm Friday May 13, 2022 in the Lind Funeral Home where friends will be received for one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in Lake View Cemetery.
