Obituary of Barbara Mae Christy

Barbara Mae Christy, 84, of 2000 Southwestern Drive, Jamestown, NY, formally of Fredonia, NY, passed away at 8:25 P.M., Monday, June 27, 2022, in the Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility, Jamestown NY. A life-long resident of Dunkirk and Fredonia, NY, she was born the third of nine children to Stewart R. and Lorraine Clifford Christy on February 20, 1938, in Dunkirk, NY. Barbara graduated from St. Mary's High School and was a licensed beautician and beloved homemaker. Before her retirement years, she was employed at various parlors in the Dunkirk/Fredonia area and worked for the Chautauqua County Office of the Aging in Dunkirk, NY. Barbara's greatest joy and passion were her four sons and her grandchildren. A devoted conversationalist with grace and beauty, Barbara had many friends across the region and sincerely cared about the lives she encountered with kindness, tenderness, compassion, respect, dignity, and sense of humor. She was a passionate and avid reader, enjoyed flowers and gardening, interior decorating, pretty clothing and cleaning with bleach and hot water. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, which is now Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church, Dunkirk, NY. Barbara's family would like to thank the staff at Orchard Grove and Heritage Park for their wonderful and compassionate care shown to her during this difficult time. Surviving are four sons, James C. Schrantz of Jamestown, NY, Jacob S. (Nora) Schrantz of Jamestown, NY, Charles S. (Marian) Schrantz of Cross Junction, VA and Christopher J. (Trisha) Schrantz of Parma Heights, OH, five grandchildren, Alexis Marie Schrantz, Cross Junction, VA, Isaac C. Schrantz (Libbi Freestone), both of Parsonsburg, MD and Airman First Class Nathan C. Schrantz, stationed in Spangdahlem, Germany, Gabriella D. Schrantz, Gianna D. Schrantz both of Parma Heights, OH, one great grandson, Saylon Schrantz of Parsonsburg, MD and several cherished nieces and nephews, especially Molly Cline. Her surviving siblings include Stewart J. (Pete) Christy, Kathleen (Kay) San George, Ellen Christy, Mary Jane Zabazniack and Luke Christy. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband James J. Schrantz, whom she married on September 22, 1962, and died on October 4, 2003, a brother John Christy, November 21, 1968, and sisters Joan Niedbalski on October 11, 2011, and Sheila Tederous on January 3, 2018. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at a later date and time to be announced by the Lind Funeral Home. The family suggests that memorials be made to James J. Schrantz and Barbara M. Christy Memorial Fund at the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, 418 Spring Street, Jamestown, NY 14701.
