Obituary of Charles L. Begert

Charles L. Begert, 81, of Bemus Point, NY, passed away on Friday August 5, 2022, in UPMC Hamot Medical Center, Erie, PA. A Bemus Point resident since 1964, he was born November 8, 1940, in Buffalo, NY, a son of the late William and Evelyn Koenig Begert. Charles was a graduate of McKinley High School in Buffalo and earned his bachelor's degree in technology from Buffalo State University. Before his retirement in 2001, he was employed by the Bemus Point Central School System as an Industrial Arts teacher at Maple Grove High School where he taught for 38 years. He was a communicant of St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church in Bemus Point. While his boys were growing up, he was very active with the Boy Scouts of America serving as a Scoutmaster of Troop 137, Bemus Point. He was also a member of the Kids on the Fly Club at the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club. He will be remembered as one who loved spending time outdoors. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and enjoyed camping and loved woodworking in his spare time. Surviving is his wife of 58 years, Mary Jane Vito Begert, whom he married November 9, 1963, two sons; Kevin (Michele) Begert of Lake Orion, MI, Scott Begert of Denver, CO, and twin grandchildren; Jordan Begert of Lake Orion, Cassandra Begert of Buffalo, NY. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Robert Begert. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Friday in St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bemus Point. The Rev. Todd Remick, pastor of Holy Apostles Parish will be celebrant. Inurnment will be in the Bemus Point Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4-7 pm Thursday, in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 6:45 pm Thursday.
