Obituary of Jean J. Olson

Jean J. Olson, 92, formerly of Jamestown, NY, passed away at 10:25 am Tuesday, December 13, 2022, in the Rouse Home, Youngsville, PA, with family by her side. An area resident for most of her life, she was born February 2, 1930, in Jamestown, NY, a daughter of the late David W. and Signe Marie Peterson Gustafson. Jean was a graduate of Jamestown High School and earned her licensed practical nursing degree in Albany, NY. Before her retirement, she was employed as a licensed practical nurse at the former Hultquist Infirmary on the Lutheran Campus. She had previously worked for the former Jamestown General Hospital and for several Dr's offices in Jamestown. She was a member of the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club Auxiliary, the Marvin Community House, and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She enjoyed many bus trips with the Frewsburg and Jamestown senior citizens. She enjoyed reading and spent countless hours knitting. She took great pride in knitting afghans for her friends and family, especially her great grandchildren. She will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who loved taking care of her family. She also made sure to hug anyone she met. She was her husband's best friend and soulmate since the day they met. Surviving is her husband of 70 years, William D. Olson whom she married August 24, 1952, two children; Beth A. Campbell of Warren, PA, Steven W. Olson of Jamestown, NY, two grandchildren; Dr. Leah Campbell (Paul Szymczuk) of Erie, PA, Lily (Jason) Nobles of Warren, PA, and three great grandchildren; Isaac Szymczuk, Audrey Nobles, and Ada Nobles. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, David Gustafson. The funeral will be held at 1:30 pm Wednesday, December 21, 2022, in the Lind Funeral Home. Pastor Jeff York of the Calvary Chapel of Russell, PA, will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 12:30 to 1:30 pm Wednesday, one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Rd. Jamestown, NY 14701.
