Obituary of Laura A. Engdahl

Laura A. Engdahl, 80, of Ashmar Lane, Jamestown, NY, passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2022, in UPMC Hamot Medical Center, Erie, PA, following a brief illness. An area resident for most of her life, she was born October 14, 1942, in Flushing, NY, a daughter of the late George E. and Alathea L. Kauer Krause. Laura was a graduate of Newtown High School in Elmhurst, NY and earned her bachelor's degree in education from State University of New York at Brockport. Before her retirement in 1998, she was employed by the Jamestown Board of Education as a fifth and sixth grade teacher at Washington Middle School for 25 years. She attended the Zion Covenant Church and was a member of the AAUW, the New York State Retired Teacher Association, Southern Chautauqua Retired Teachers Association, and a former member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. Surviving is a son; Michael B. (Lisa Hansen-Engdahl) Engdahl of Lakewood, NY, a daughter; Melinda S. (David) Phelps of Marietta, GA, four grandchildren; Jackson R. Engdahl, Mia Marie Engdahl, Braydon N. Phelps, Nolan D. Phelps. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Jack R. Engdahl whom she married June 27, 1964, and who died April 22, 2021. The funeral will be held at 11 am Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Rick Miller will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday in the funeral home. The service will also be livestreamed on Wednesday and available to view at www.lindfuneralhome.com.
