Obituary of Linda L. DeVlieger

Linda L. DeVlieger, 77, of Lakeside Dr. Ashville, NY, passed away at 4:30 am Saturday, December 17, 2022, in her home. An area resident for most of her life, she was born August 21, 1945, in Warren, PA, a daughter of the late Claude G. and Vernelle Wood Burroughs. Linda was a 1963 graduate of Eisenhower High School. Before her retirement years, she was employed by the Panama Central School working in the cafeteria for several years. In previous years she had worked for the former Jamesway Department Store and Erickson's Restaurant. She was a member of the Rock Church. She and her husband helped to sponsor and support a child living in Peru. She will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who loved spending time with her family. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed writing letters to her children and grandchildren. She also had a green thumb and loved taking care of plants and flower garden. Surviving is her husband of 58 years, Harold G. "Gordy" DeVlieger, whom she married on her 19th birthday, August 21, 1964, three children; Laurie (Dan) Carlson of Ashville, NY, Cindy (Tom) Sporysz of Forestville, NY, Richard (Tammy) DeVlieger of Mayville, NY, ten grandchildren; Kristin Griffis, Korey (Meaghen) Carlson, Paul DeVlieger, Joshua DeVlieger, Thomas Sporysz, Matthew Sporysz, Allison (Zack) Hanczarowski, Jeffrey DeVlieger, Derek (Ryan) DeVlieger, and Ashley DeVlieger, ten great grandchildren, five brothers; Harry Burroughs of Lake City, PA, Claude Burroughs of Jamestown, NY, Richard Burroughs of Scandia, PA, Craig Burroughs of Hendersonville, NC, Tom Burroughs of Russell, PA, and two sisters; Christina Gray of Russell, PA and Lucy MacLees of Columbus, OH. She is also survived by her beloved dog Joey and her cat Cali. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a half-brother, Steve Pederson, and her stepmother, Evelyn Burroughs. A memorial service for Linda will be held at 12 noon Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at the Rock Church, 35 West Fairmount Ave. Lakewood, NY. The Rev. Doug Kibbe will officiate. Friends will be received from 11 am to noon, one hour prior to the service at the church and following the service in fellowship hall.
