Obituary of David G. Pitts

David G. Pitts, 62, of Central Florida, formerly of Dewittville, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, in Florida. David was born April 1, 1960, in Jamestown, NY, a son of Jean Holman Pitts Moore and the late Bruce R. Pitts. He was a graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central School. David was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. He began his military service with the New York Army National Guard, Company B, 127 Armored Division in Jamestown, NY and his first call to active duty was from 2002 to 2003 and his second tour of active duty was from 2008-2013 during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He also served time at Ground Zero during the September 11 attacks in New York City. He served a total of 23 years, 11 months, and 24 days from his time with the National Guard and his active-duty years. Before his retirement because of his military leave of absence, he was employed by the City of Jamestown Sanitation Department for over 20 years. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars both here in Chautauqua County and in Central Florida. He will be remembered as an avid fisherman and sharpshooter. He also loved to ride his motorcycle and tend to his garden and was known for his green thumb. Surviving is his mother, Jean Moore of Dewittville, NY, the mother of his children, Karen States Pitts, whom he married December 24, 1980, his three children: Ann M. (Robert) King of Central FL. Amy L. (James Caldwell) Brown of Ellery Center, NY, Joseph C. (Shianne) Pitts of Sinclairville, NY, 10 grandchildren: Aaron Norris, Bobbie Jo King, Hayley N. King, Dylan P. King, Alex L. Caldwell, Morgan L. Caldwell, Ariyah C. Brown, Blaine D. Caldwell, Willow G> Pitts, Piper R. Pitts, one great grandchild: Brynlee S. Robinson, two sisters: Carol Carlson of Jamestown, NY, Joyce Banner of CA, two brothers: Richard Pitts of OH, Jonathan Pitts of Dewittville, NY, as well as several nieces, nephews, close friends, and his companion, Ronnie H. He was preceded in death by his father, Bruce R. Pitts who died December 5, 2009, and a brother, James E. Pitts who died December 4, 2002. The funeral will be held at 4 pm Monday, January 2, 2023, in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Joe Pascoe of the Park United Methodist Church will officiate. The service will also be livestreamed at www.lindfuneralhome.com. The family will receive friends from 2-4 pm Monday, two hours prior to the service in the funeral home.
