Obituary of Alexander Ditonto

Alexander Ditonto, 91, of Chautauqua, passed away early Wednesday morning, Feb. 1, 2023 at Buffalo General Hospital. He was the husband of Eva Kunze Ditonto whom he married Nov. 8, 1954 in Frankfurt, Germany and who died this past Dec. 21, 2022. Alex was born April 28, 1931 in Jamestown, the son of the late Lawrence and Barbara Praino Ditonto. Alex served in the US Air Force from 1951 to 1955 as a Flight Engineer and Crew Chief. He was stationed in Frankfurt, West Germany and participated in humanitarian missions throughout Europe, including transport of food and toys during the Berlin Airlift. Alex was bestowed a medal by the Queen of England for his efforts in the search and rescue at the Harrow and Wealdstone rail disaster in London. Alex began his career at Automatic Voting Machine (later to become American Locker Group) in Jamestown, NY as a draftsman in 1959. He rose through positions of increasing responsibility to eventually become President and CEO. Alex also served as President and Chairman of the Board of Signore Incorporated in Ellicottville, NY. Alex was an avid golfer and long-time member of Moonbrook Country Club in Jamestown. Surviving are three children: Michael (Elizabeth) Ditonto of Orchard Park, NY, Karen (Roy) Glosser of Mayville, NY, and Valerie (Greg) Mulgrave of Frankfort, KY; three grandchildren: Cameron Glosser, Alexa Ditonto, and Mikaela Ditonto; and brother Joseph (Theresa) Ditonto of Fort Myers Beach, FL. Along with his wife Eva, Alex was preceded in death by his siblings Delores Ditonto Sieta, Dominick Ditonto, Richard Ditonto, and Lawrence Ditonto. A combined funeral service for both Alex and Eve will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Todd M. Remick will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Chautauqua County Humane Society.
