Obituary of Carola Papaserge

Carola Papaserge, 76, of 154 Hedges Ave., passed away Thursday, March 23, 2023 in her home. She was the widow of the late Frank A. Papaserge, Sr. whom she married May 7, 1977 and who passed May 19, 2018. Carola was born June 27, 1946 in Bayreuth, Bavaria in Germany and was the daughter of the late Ferdinand and Elisabeth Ortloff. In Germany, she was employed at a China manufacturing factory and later by a paint manufacturer. After coming to the United States in 1977, she worked as a department head at the former Hill's Department Store in Jamestown for over 15 years, followed by National Wire until her retirement. Carola enjoyed playing cards, especially Pinochle and Bridge, and loved to cook and bake. She was known for her German potato salad that no one could match. Carola was often seen at local restaurants out for breakfast and was loved by the staff. She collected Teddy bears and shared her home with her cat, Biscuit. In her younger years, mom could be seen playing pranks on folks and sometimes even taking a chair out of the restaurant when leaving. Surviving is her daughter, Susanne O. (Jeffery) Bloom of Jamestown; a stepson, Frank A. Papaserge, Jr. of Jamestown; and two brothers in Germany, Holger Ortloff of Andernach and Roland (Monika) Ortloff of Spiesen-Elversberg. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. Pastor Steven LaMar will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Assoc., the American Cancer Society, or to a charity of choice.
