Obituary of James Allen Gallagher

James Allen Gallagher, 90, of 175 Aldren Avenue, formerly of 15 Chestnut Street, died Tuesday March 28, 2023, in Mease Countryside Hospital, Safety Harbor, FL. A Jamestown resident most of his life, he was born December 31, 1932, a son of the late John and Florence Peterson Gallagher. He was a 1951 graduate of Jamestown High School and then earned degrees from Jamestown Community College and Kent State University. He completed graduate studies at SUNY Fredonia and Harvard University. He was a Korean War veteran of the US Air Force serving from 1952-56. From 1961-65 he was employed by Case Institute of Technology as assistant director of admissions. Prior to his retirement in 1993 he worked as Director of Admissions at Jamestown Community College since 1965. He then became Senior Consultant of The Saging Center at JCC from 2001-2002. He was a communicant of Holy Apostles Parish, Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church and its St. Vincent DePaul Society. He was a member of 100 Member Club of Jamestown High School, Ira Lou Spring Post #149 American Legion, Ingjald Lodge #65 IOV, The Celtics Club, Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and Braw Caddie Clan. He was a life member of Chautauqua County Counselors' Association and a charter member of State University of New York College Admissions Personnel. Jim had served on the boards of directors for Family Service of Jamestown and Chautauqua Region Multiple Sclerosis Society. Surviving are two children James (Michele) Gallagher of Dunedin, FL and Libby (Warren) Franke of Ames, IA; grandchildren Andrew Gallagher, Hannah Gallagher, Madeline Gallagher, and William Franke. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Cynthia Moran Gallagher, whom he married August 30, 1958, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lakewood and who died February 4, 2020; two brothers Philip Gallagher in 1950 and John "Jack" Gallagher, Jr. in 2002 and a sister Jeanne Laubaugh in 1984. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 am April 28, 2023, in Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Friends will be received from 4-6 pm April 27, 2023, in the Lind Funeral Home.
