Obituary of Gertrude E. Fetzner

Gertrude E. "Trudy" Fetzner, 97, of Bemus Point, passed away Saturday evening, April 22, 2023 at UPMC Chautauqua. She was the widow of the late William A. Fetzner, whom she married Dec. 8, 1945 and who died Oct. 18, 2000. Trudy was born Dec. 12, 1925 in Rochester, NY, a daughter of the late Paul and Elisabeth Knopp Schoth. She had worked as a waitress at several former area restaurants, including the Vintage House, Terrace Inn, and Bud's Carriage House. Trudy then, with her late husband, owned and operated Trans World Liquors in Greenhurst. In later years, she worked for the Bemus Point Library. Trudy was a charter member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church where she was active in the Altar Guild. In earlier years, she also enjoyed being a Brownie troop leader. Surviving are two daughters: Judy (Ed) Hoagland of Greenhurst, and Jill Slowik of Port St. Lucie, FL; four grandchildren: Jay Hoagland of Celoron, Todd (Cathy Price) Hoagland of Jamestown, Trisha Haglund of Minneapolis, MN, and Jason (Mei) Haglund of Keller, TX; and four great-grandchildren. Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Geiwitz; son-in-law, Raymond Slowik; three nephews: Gary Nicholson, Jr., James P. Geiwitz, and Charles R. Geiwitz, Jr.; as well as two sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 28th in St. Timothy Lutheran Church. The Rev. Ivy Gauvin and Deacon Daniel Tyler will officiate. Inurnment will be in Bemus Point Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to St. Timothy Lutheran Church, the Bemus Point and the Fluvanna Fire Departments, or the Bemus Point Library.
