Obituary of Anthony B. Long, Sr.

Anthony B. Long Sr., 81, of Fort Myers, FL, passed peacefully on May 3, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Born December 9, 1941, in Vandergrift, PA, a son of the late Knox & Angeline Long, and spent most of his adult life in Jamestown, NY. He worked at Falconer Plate Glass until retirement and was owner of Patsys Lounge in Jamestown & Anthony's Grub & Grind in Fort Myers. He was an avid sports fan and played football in high school and everyone who knew him knew he was a long-time Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan. He loved his years coaching Babe Ruth and had the opportunity of coaching in the Babe Ruth World Series. He also enjoyed playing in the local softball leagues. He had a passion for cars and always had a sports car parked in the driveway. His most prized possession was his Buick Grand National. He was strong in his Christian Science Faith and was an active member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Fort Myers, FL. He is survived by his three children: Timothy (Sue) Haugh of Summerville, PA, Tony (Melisa) Long of Fort Myers, FL, and Jody Long of Fort Myers, FL. Two grandchildren: Jordan (Kearsten) Haugh, Jarrett Haugh & fiancé Amanda Wolfe of Summerville, PA. Also living are his brothers Ted, Elmer & Eugene Long, and his sisters Mary Holiday, Dorothy Brown, Ilene Kelley & Cindy Neel. He spent his last years with his loving companion Joanne Montgomery of Fort Myers, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Delores Long & Knoxene Platt, brother Butch Long and his wife of 42 years, Betty Anne Roman Long. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 11th at 11 a.m. at the Lind Funeral Home. His family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 10th from 2-4 and 7-9 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Gerry Cemetery in Gerry, NY. Immediately after, a reception will be held at the Chautauqua Harbor Hotel in Celeron, NY.
