Obituary of Richard A. Hoglund

Reverend Richard Albin Hoglund, 85, of Jamestown, NY, passed onto glory on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at UPMC Hamot while surrounded by family. He was born on June 14, 1937 at Jamestown General Hospital. He was the son of Swedish emigrants Carl E. Hoglund and Ingred F. J. Johnson Hoglund. He married the love of his life JoAnn Hart on June 2, 1957. They were married almost 64 years at the time of JoAnn's passing in 2021. Richard grew up in Jamestown and was a 1955 graduate of Jamestown High School's Technical Mechanical course where he was a member of Honor Society and the Rifle Club. He studied mechanical engineering at General Motors Institute in Flint, MI and was a co-op student working at Harrison Radiator GMC in Lockport, NY. Richard continued his education at SUNY Fredonia where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in secondary education. He went on to Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. and graduated with a Master of Divinity at the National Cathedral in D.C. He served churches in Western New York, West Virginia, and Maryland until he retired to spend more time with his wife and family. He then spent his manufacturing career working as a Chief Engineer, Plant Engineering Manager, and Director of Plant Engineering. He worked throughout Western NY and Northwestern Pennsylvania up until his retirement due to his health. Surviving are his six children: Richard Hoglund, Jr., of Painted Post, NY, Christina Heath of Virginia, Kathleen Johnson of Rochester, NY, Carla Hall, Susan Engstrom and Jennifer (Mike) Graham all of Jamestown; twelve grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren, with another on the way. Besides his wife he was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Carol Deneen, and an infant son, Phillip Hoglund. The family will be receiving guests on Monday, May 15, 2023 from 1-2 p.m. with funeral services to be held at 2 p.m. with Pastor Jennifer Delahoy officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
