Obituary of Lois M. DeHaven

Lois M. DeHaven, 94, of Mayville, NY, passed away early Wednesday morning, May 24, 2023, in her home with family by her side. Lois was born May 5, 1929, in Rushford, NY, the daughter of the late Dannie and Pearl Baker Dunning. In her earlier years, Lois enjoyed roller skating; lettered in high school sports; and as a former member of Falconer First Wesleyan Church was involved in a variety of activities such as music and chalk art. She was married to James E. DeHaven on May 29, 1948, with whom she enjoyed ballroom dancing, travel, and time at Chautauqua Lake with family and guests. Lois enjoyed professional success as she played key roles in the family businesses. She retired at the age of 92 from Westfield Dodge City, where she invested over 43 years. Additionally, Lois had a great passion for planning events, creating environments for family gatherings, and supporting her family's involvement in sports and the arts. Lois was predeceased by her loving husband James E. DeHaven, who died March 31, 1996; as well as her daughter, Rev. Cheryl (Rev. R. Gordon) Spiller. Lois' surviving three (3) children are Darrell W. (Yvonne) DeHaven of Westfield, NY; Daniel E. (Judy) DeHaven of Stuart, FL; and Sandra J. (Robert) Leon of Jamestown, NY. Her surviving twelve (12) grandchildren are Ginger Johnson of Bemus Point, NY; Rev. James Spiller of Portland, NY; Michelle (Robert) Stephenson of Fuquay-Varina, NC; Jonathan (Kristen) Spiller of Gorham, ME; Corey (Karla) DeHaven of Raleigh, NC; Michael (Jennifer) DeHaven of Cedar Park, TX; Joshua Spiller of Buffalo, NY; Rev. Shane (Aimee) DeHaven of Brunswick, GA; Dr. Dorian (Kristen) DeHaven DC of Grand Haven, MI; Jason (Amanda) Spiller of Brocton, NY; Sarah (Jason) Bamford of Mooresville, NC; and Matthew (Abbey) Leon of Cambridge, MA. Lois is also survived by twenty-five (25) great grandchildren plus one (1) on the way, and four (4) great-great grandchildren plus two (2) on the way. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 5th at the Lind Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 6th at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Jamestown, NY. Lois' grandson, Rev. Shane DeHaven, will officiate. The burial will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
