Obituary of Marion J. Johnson

Marion J. Johnson, 93, formerly of Greenhurst, NY, passed away at 10:12 pm Saturday, August 5, 2023, in the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. An area resident for most of her life, she was born July 6, 1930 in Jamestown, NY a daughter of the late Nils Oscar and Elsie Maria Svenson Roberg. Before her retirement, she was employed as a sales associate for the JC Penney Company , working at the Chautauqua Mall for several years. In earlier years she worked in the labor and delivery room at WCA Hospital. She was a former member of the Ingjald lodge #65 Independent Order of the Vikings and the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club. Marion will be remembered by those who knew her as a fun-loving woman who made you laugh. By her daughter's, she will be remembered as a woman of strength, courage, faith, and perseverance. She was proud of her Swedish heritage, where she lived as a young girl for a time before returning to the States. Her love of animals brought her rescue dog "Nugget" into her life. She always said that "Nugget" thanked her every day. He gave her many years of companionship and love. Surviving are her four daughters, Cheryl Owens of Riverview, FL, Darlene (Terry) Lind of Staunton, VA, Judy Christiansen of Conway, SC, Joanie (Gregg) Wefing of Maple Springs, NY, 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Johnson whom she married December 18, 1948 and who died January 27, 1985, and her sister, Carol Johnson. Marion's family would like to thank the staff at Orchard Grove Assisted Living for their loving care for the past five years. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. Visitation will not be observed. Inurnment will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
