Obituary of Ivan P. Wood

Ivan P. Wood, 85, of 45 Panama-Bear Lake Road, Panama, N.Y., died at 7:15 AM Friday, October 9, 2009 at Select Specialty Hospital in Erie, PA following complications after surgery. Mr. Wood was born September 22, 1925 in Warren, PA, the son of Paul and (Pearl) Mae Wood. He was a graduate of Russell, Pa High School Class of 1942. Mr. Wood had a varied career. He was a Landsman for various gas and oil exploration companies. He managed the company Windows, Doors and More in Detroit, MI. He owned and operated the Ashland Fuel Company in Kennedy, N.Y. For many years he was an agent for Nationwide Insurance in Jamestown, N.Y. He started his career as a dairy farmer and managed UpAway Farm in Ashland, N.Y. from 1954 - 1964. Mr. Wood was a WWII Army veteran and very active in the Lakewood Legion. He served as a post commander and president of the Board of Directors. He was one of the gentlemen instrumental in building the current post. He was an active member of Panama Methodist Church. Mr. Wood is survived by his children: Don Wood (Linda) of Ashville, NY, Dan Wood of Phoenix, AZ, Rosann Faull (Arthur) of Jacksonville, Fl, Robin Hurst (Richard) of Framingham, MA and Yvonnie Wolf (Bruce) of Statesville, NC. His grandchildren: Curtis Wood (Laura) of Panama, NY, Christine Hurley (Don) of Rochester, NY, Dan Wood, Jr (Cindy) of Bolingbrook, IL, Alice Hurst (Framingham, MA), Richard Hurst, Jr (Framingham, MA), Michelle Sadowsky (Michael) of Falconer, NY, David Johnson, of Herndon, VA, many great grandchildren, two brothers Ted Wood (Midge) of Warren, PA and Tom Wood (Sally) of Palmyra, PA and a sister Pat Peterson (Marshall) of Walnut Creek, OH. He was preceded in death by his first wife, of 46 years, Evelyn Wood, his second wife, of 5 years, Eleanor Wood, his parents, a sister Coral Yusdach and a brother Clair Wood. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Reverend Stephen J. Wiggers, pastor of Panama United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Mr. Wood's family request donations in his memory are to be made to the Panama Volunteer Fire Department's Ambulance Fund.
