Obituary of Miner B. Swanson

Miner B. Swanson, 87, of 3080 West Oak Hill Road Jamestown, passed away peacefully Wednesday May 27, 2015 in his home surrounded by his family. He was born March 22, 1928 in Warren, PA the son of the late Joseph and Marie Lawson Swanson. Miner was a veteran of the US Navy serving during WWII. Prior to retirement, he was employed for many years at Barton Tool Inc. He was a member of the Vikings and Ira Lou Spring Post 149 American Legion. Miner enjoyed traveling, playing golf, and having coffee at Phil and Cindy's. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. Surviving are his wife, Janice Holm Swanson whom he married October 28, 1951; three sons, Steven J. (the late Mary Ann) Swanson of Falconer; Mark D. (Mary Jo) Swanson of Jamestown; Gary R. (Laurie) Swanson of Frewsburg; a daughter, Lynn (Christopher) Watson of Jamestown; 11 grandchildren, Steven S., Christopher M., Andrea L., Bethany, Joseph, Chantel, Justin, Anna Marie, Ashley, Dustin, and Eric; 17 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; a brother, Gordon Swanson of Richmond, VA; and a sister, Louise Linder of Toccoa, GA. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Kayla J. Haase. A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. H. Wayne Eppehimer, pastor of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Chautauqua County, 20 W Fairmount Ave Lakewood, NY 14750; or Immanuel Lutheran Church 556 E Second Street Jamestown, NY 14701; or to a charity of choice.
