Obituary of Carolyn S. Smith

Carolyn S. Smith, 75, of 239 Sprague St. Jamestown passed away at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2015, in her home. An area resident for most of her life, she was born June 17, 1939 in Charleston, West Virginia a daughter of the late Clyde R. and Irene Atkinson Cummings, Sr. She was a 1957 graduate of Jamestown High School and was a former member of the Jamestown Eagles Lodge. Before her retirement was employed as a manager for the Sunoco Company and it's affiliates from 1979-1999. She will be remembered as a loving and caring wife and mother who loved spending time with her large extended family. They were all very important to her throughout her life. Surviving are a daughter, Shannon E. (Marv) Neubauer of Jamestown, a son, Kevin R. Smith of FL, three step-grandchildren, Daniel F. Neubauer of Silver Creek, NY, Adam M. Neubauer and Sydney L. Neubauer both of Jamestown, a step-great grandson, Caleb Scott Neubauer, six nephews, John (Debbie) Williams, Richard Williams, Timothy (Denise) Williams, David (Carla) Williams, Stephen (Sara) Cummings, James Cummings, her great nieces and nephews, Krista (Kelly) Vincent, John Williams, Jr., Renee Williams, Taylor JoAnn Williams, Jordan Williams, her great great nieces and nephews, Chelsey, Kaylee, Jarrett and Damen Vincent, a brother in law, Richard (Carol) Willams, a sister in law, Virginia Cummings both of Jamestown. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews on the Smith side of the family. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald A. Smith, Sr. whom she married July 12, 1958 and who died January 11, 2005, a son, Donald A. Smith, Jr. who died March 20, 1987, a sister, JoAnn Williams who died November 5, 1999, and two brothers, James A. Cummings who died August 7, 1971 and Clyde R. "Corky" Cummings, Jr. who died June 13, 1959. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 8, 2015, in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Dayle F. Keefer, pastor of the Fluvanna Community Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
