Obituary of Louis Dimas

Louis Dimas, 94, of 133 East Virginia Blvd. Jamestown, passed away Thursday June 4, 2015 in the Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. He was born May 8, 1921 in Rochester, NY the son of the late Peter and Thomaidha George Dimas. Louis was a WWII veteran, proudly serving in the United States Air Force for 5 years. He married the former Thomaidha Gjoka on September 15, 1946. Shortly after their marriage, due to his father in laws illness, Louis took over the Brooklyn Restaurant along with his cousin Christ. Louis continued to run the restaurant until 1974 when he and his wife opened the Brookwood restaurant and Tommie's Pizza. He and Thomaidha owned and operated the restaurant until their retirement in 1999. Louis was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, Elks Lodge, and a life member of the Eagles and John W. Tiffany Post 53 VFW. He was a youth sports enthusiast and contributed to many league sponsorships. Surviving are his wife of 68 years Thomaidha; a daughter, Sandra (Arthur) Cottrell of Lake Bluff, IL; a son, Peter Louis (Jody) Dimas of Denver, CO; three granddaughters, Alexandria Cottrell, Katherine Cottrell, and Elyse Calderon; and a brother, George Dimas of Jamestown. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Williams; and two brothers, Andrew Dimas and Samuel T. Dimas. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. The Rev. George S. Zervos, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Trisagion Prayer Service will be led at 6:30 p.m. Monday. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Dr. LaMancuso and staff and to the staff at Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing for being kind and courteous caregivers.
