Obituary of Carole J. Norberg

Carole Jean Westcott Norberg passed peacefully to her heavenly art studio on July 3, 2015 surrounded by her loving family in her home. She was born to Clifford and Priscilla Westcott on February 28, 1935 in Jamestown NY. She married the love of her life, Sven (Bud) Norberg, on August 6, 1960, and recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary. Carole was a proud 1954 graduate of Jamestown High School and very much looked forward to each class reunion through the years. She attended SUNY Buffalo as a fine Art Major. After college, she spent many years studying painting under Lurabell Colburn in a one room schoolhouse. Carole loved to tell the story of having her "office" under the kitchen table as a young child which she said was the beginning of her artistic career. She was an accomplished, award winning artist with artwork displayed in many homes. Carole was a life member and historian of the Chautauqua County Society of Artists, participating in 41 years of "Art in the Park" including the first year it was held. Alzheimer's disease took away her ability to create artwork until just days before the most recent illness, when she sketched Jesus looking over a lady with his hand on her head. As a loving Mother and Grandmother, she was always thinking of her family first and was able to give them the gift of knowing she was at peace and loved by her Lord. Carole had been employed by Union National Furniture where she painted Oriental artwork on black lacquered cabinets, Arnot, Murphy's, She spent the better portion of her life as a Mom at home caring for her 4 boys and husband. Carole is survived by her husband, her four sons: Christopher (Denise) Norberg of Jamestown, David (Kathleen) Norberg of Warren, PA, Steven (Lisa) Norberg of Jamestown and Michael (Amy) Norberg of Jamestown, three grandchildren: Steven, Andrew and Jennifer Norberg, a brother John Westcott of Michigan, several nieces and nephews as well as her beloved cat, Sidney. She was preceded in death by her parents. The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. David B. Larson, retired director of visitation of First Covenant Church will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, Carole has requested to have her Grandma Moses style artwork displayed beside her.
