Obituary of Dorinda Y. Courtine

Dorinda Elizabeth "Dede" Young Courtine 70, Ashville N.Y., passed away on Saturday, July 11. 2015 following a sudden illness. She was born Oct. 6, 1944 in Erie, PA to Dorinda Elizabeth DeMaison Young and Daniel Cornelius Young. She is survived by her children, Dorinda (Kenton) Elizabeth Courtine-White of Jamestown NY, Donna (David) L Zimmerman of Evansville IN, Dana (Shawn) A. Courtine of Philadelphia PA, and Daniel (Erica) B. Courtine of Fuquay Varina NC; and her grandchildren Quinn White, Christan Zimmerman, Tyler Zimmerman, Jameson Courtine, and Rhys Courtine. She also leaves behind her siblings, Judith A. Young (Dorinda Young SSJ) of Washington DC, Margaret C. Gerrity of Rocky River OH, and Daniel W. Young of Erie PA. Dorinda was a graduate of the University of Detroit despite skipping most classes to play bridge in the Student Union. For many years Dorinda dedicated herself to her work at Cummins Engine Company. She was proud to bring her human resource skills to turn a group of hard-headed engineers into a working team, and was the creator of the Skilled Trades Trainee program. She was also part of the small team that started the annual Love School/Emmanuel Baptist Science Fair. Dorinda lived her retirement years in Ashville, NY doing anything she darn well pleased. She was proud to celebrate her oldest grandson's high school graduation two weeks before her passing and happy to take all her children and grandchildren out to lunch together while celebrating her youngest daughter's wedding. She is likely to be drinking a beer and arguing politics right now with her favorite brother-in-law or playing a heated bridge game with her mom, dad, aunts, and uncles. Her favorite song is playing on repeat at max volume. Services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, July 17, 2015 in the Lind Funeral Home, 805 W 3rd St, Jamestown NY. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and for one hour prior to the service Friday in the funeral home. In lieu of her favorite flowers, lilies and roses, the contributions in memory of Dorinda may be made to the Salvation Army, PO Box 368, Jamestown, NY 14701 or Habitat for Humanity, 2 Academy St # 4, Mayville, NY 14757.
