Obituary of Kala Jean Basile

Kala Jean Taylor Basile, 84, of 27 Hunter St. Jamestown, passed away at 3:44 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2015, in the Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. A lifelong area resident, she was born November 14, 1930 in Ellington, NY, a daughter of the late Richard Paul and Cora Elizabeth Johnson Taylor. She was a 1948 graduate of Randolph Central School. In earlier years she was a meter maid for the City of Jamestown and also worked for the former Galati's Restaurant. From 1976 to 1994 she was the owner and operator of the Train Station Restaurant in North Warren, PA. In later year she was employed by Sam's Club for several years. Kala was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church and was a member of the Lakewood Memorial Post 1286 American Legion Auxiliary. She also spent many hours as a literacy volunteer at the James Prendergast Library. Surviving are four daughters, Carla (Gary) Sorenson of Jamestown, Margaret Basile (Jim) Johnson, Elizabeth (Willie) Davis both of Lakewood, Carolyn (Lee) Bennett of Jamestown, eight grandchildren, Christopher J. Sorenson of Jamestown, Geoffrey J. (Melissa) Sorenson of Homer, NY, Carrianne (David Cornell) Sorenson of Dryden, NY, Andrew Bennett, Nicholas Bennett, Taylor Bennett, Katelyn Bennett all of Jamestown, Rachael Jean Davis of Lakewood, seven great grandchildren, Sam, Lilly and Molly Sorenson, Marcus, Jonas and Maya Cornell and Riley Bennett. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Carl J. Basile whom she married November 23, 1950 and who died December 12, 1977, three sisters, June Peterson, Barbara Slupski, Virginia Moore, a brother, Wayne Taylor and a great granddaughter, Layne Sorenson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday in St. James Catholic Church. The Rev. Darrell G. Duffy, pastor will be celebrant. Entombment will be in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends will be received from 1-3 & 5-7 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be led at p.m. Friday. It was Kala's personal request that those attending the funeral mass at church please wear the color red. Memorials may be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Rd.
