Obituary of Duane Drake

Duane A. "Buckwheat" Drake. 65, of Busti-Stillwater Road, passed away Sunday September 6, 2015, in Erie County Medical Center. A lifelong area resident, he was born June 17, 1950, in Jamestown, a son of the late A. Sanford and Marjorie Decker Drake. He was a graduate of Southwestern Central School. A veteran of the US Army, he served during the Vietnam War. Following discharge from the service, he was employed by Dick Ostrom Enterprises for a few years and later worked as a truck driver for Keith Trucking, Ron Snyder and Bob Bennett. He later became a self employed independent driver. He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather who loved being outdoors, working on his small farm, taking care of his land, mowing and planting trees. He always looked forward to making hay every year. He had a smile for anyone who stopped by to visit. Buckwheat will be greatly missed. Surviving are his wife Linda Snyder Drake; two sons William Drake of Jamestown and Ken Drake of Watts Flats; five grandchildren Jessie, Mollie, Andrew, Kendall and Little Jacob and two sisters Judith Greer of Jamestown and Marilyn Holcomb of Florida. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in the Bath National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project.
