Obituary of Kathaleen S. Seager

The world lost a person of class and a ray of hope today. Kathaleen S. Seager nee Carlson passed peacefully on 10/20/2015 just 16 days shy of her 90th birthday. She was a friend, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a great-grandmother, a confidant, and the undisputed champion of slaying "things that go thump in the night" and "fears that you shouldn't fear". She mastered the art of building you up, teaching by example, encouraging you when you doubted yourself, and shining bright blue eyes upon you when you needed it most. Today, she'd be considered a "homemaker" ...and what a home it was. Back then, she was a "housewife". No less important, just different times. She made a man all he could be with her support, assistance and soft spoken guidance to her late husband, Dr. Roger C. Seager PhD former President of Jamestown Community College. She learned as he weaved through graduate school, how to raise four young daughters with pennies to spare, thread to hem, clothes she could make and love to give... that no good thing comes easy. Later in life, she added three more children to her army. Though better off, the lessons were the same "be good at something, contribute, be part of the team", only good flows from there. She is predeceased by her husband, her sister the late Grace Carlson Oakes her parents, and her grandson the late James "Jimmie" Kopta. She is survived by a large group of people blessed to have called her "mom"; Six daughters, Paula Kopta of Clifton Park, NY, Kathy (Bob) Johnson of Gilbertsville, PA, Linda Seager of Kenmore, NY, Recia (Warren) Ragle ofMantua, OH, Wendy Seager of Portland, OR, Teagen (Cliff) Bridgers of Colmar, PA, and a son Gregg Seager of Jamestown, NY. Her crew only grew from there. Seventeen grand children and, at the moment, six great grand-children. Kathaleen was equally devoted to the church as much as her family and took much joy in her duties at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church as a Lay Eucharistic Minister. Her lessons in the mystery of the grace of God and they way she lived a committed life to family lives on in all who are proud to call her mom, grandma, friend... A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Rev. Joseph Janaczek will be celebrant. Inurnment will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home, where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 6:45 p.m. Friday. Memorials may be made to Roger Seager Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, 418 Spring Street, Jamestown, NY 14701.
