Obituary of Richard L. Meier

Richard L. Meier, 88, formerly of 14 First Street, High Acres, died Thursday October 29, 2015, in Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing. He was born September 26, 1927, in Prospect, PA, the son of the late Harvey and Olive Bloom Meier. He was a 1945 graduate of Jamestown High School. Prior to his retirement in 1983, he was employed by Blackstone Corporation as chief inspector of quality control where he had worked for 40 years. He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church where he served as an usher. Surviving are three children Gregory (Leslie) Meier of Harwich, MA, Cathy Bailey of Spring, TX and Jeanne Barlow of Tucson, AZ; two step sons Lawrence Banes of Jamestown and Keith Banes of Corpus Christi, TX; eighteen grandchildren and twenty four great grandchildren. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Lowe Meier, whom he married July 25, 1975 and who died February 6, 2014; his former wife Jean Hodge Jones and a step daughter Cheryl Hovey in 2010. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Rev. Luke F. Foder, Rector of St. Luke's will officiate. Visitation will not be observed.
