Obituary of Bruce B. Farrar

Bruce B. Farrar, 84, of 2504 Sumner St. Jamestown, passed away at 1:55 a.m. Tuesday, November 3, 2015, at his home. A lifelong area resident, he was born October 28, 1931 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Samuel and Elsie Musther Farrar. He was a 1950 graduate of Jamestown High School and served in the New York Army National Guard from 1949 to 1959. Before his retirement he was a plant supervisor for Hope's Windows where he worked for 44 years. Bruce was a longtime member of the Kiantone Volunteer Fire Department where he served as Past Chief and Past Assistant Chief. He also served for several years as a member of the Town of Kiantone Zoning Board and was a member of the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club. He loved dogs and in earlier years enjoyed raising beagles. Bruce will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who loved hosting parties and spending time with his family and many friends. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman and loved being outdoors. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Carol A. Swanson Farrar whom he married September 11, 1954, two daughters, Gloria (Robert) Martin, Debra Latona, a son, Gregory Farrar all of Jamestown, three grandchildren, Amanda L. Latona, Michael Martin both of Jamestown, Ashley Martin of Rochester, NY, a great granddaughter, Hailey J. Granger of Jamestown and a brother Ralph Farrar of Jamestown. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Mary Kasperek. A private family service will be held in the Lind Funeral Home. Visitation will not be observed. Inurnment will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Kiantone Volunteer Fire Department, 2318 Foote Ave. Ext.
