Obituary of Jean M. Graves

Jean M. Graves, 90, passed away Sunday, November 8, 2015 at her home in Lakewood surrounded by her family. She was the widow of James E. Graves, whom she married March 3, 1946 and who died November 29, 1991. Jean was born September 11, 1925 in Evansville, IN, a daughter of the late Arthur and Alma L. Hettenbach Jarboe, and was a 1943 graduate of Reitz High School in Evansville. An area resident since 1966, Jean had been a member of the Women's Club of Lakewood, the Garden Club and the Antiquer's Club, Lakewood Rod & Gun Club Women's Auxiliary, Lakewood/Busti Golden Agers, Jamestown Concert Association and Little Theatre. She was also a past volunteer for the WCA Hospital Snack Shop. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Jean was an avid reader and bridge player and loved her Monday morning bridge group. A lover of animals, she also enjoyed taking care of and watching the many birds in her yard that came to her bird feeders. Jean was a wonderful woman who touched everyone who knew her. She will be sadly missed by her family and caregivers. Surviving are two daughters, Linda (Gary) Carlson and Sherry (Robert) Kobel, both of Jamestown; two sons, Mark (Josie) Graves of Jamestown and James (Connie) Graves of Spencerport, NY; seven grandchildren: Tracy Carlson, Robert Kobel, Nicole Kobel, Marc Graves, Stephen Graves, Tera (Daniel) Webster and Amanda Thompson; as well as two great-granddaughters, Adelyn and Silvie Rose Webster. In addition to her husband, Jean was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Jarboe and a sister, Jackie Woehler. At Jean's request, a private family service will be held in the Lind Funeral Home. Visitation will not be observed. Entombment will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Rd., Jamestown, NY 14701; or Hospice Chautauqua County, 20 W. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750.
