Obituary of Marion E. Bland

Marion E. Bland, 87, of 2864 East Ave. Greenhurst, NY passed away at 2:15 a.m. Saturday, November 7, 2015, in her home. A lifelong area resident, she was born September 3, 1928 in Jamestown, NY a daughter of the late Gustav F. and Eva Lundquist Carlson. She was a 1946 graduate of Jamestown High School. Before her retirement in 1988, she was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 28 years working in the Greenhurst and Falconer post office. In earlier years she had worked for the Pennsylvania Gas Company from 1946 to 1953 and the Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. Marion was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Ingjald Lodge #65 Independent Order of the Vikings and was a former Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. She was a person who was very proud of her Swedish Heritage and loved spending winters in Stuart, FL with her husband during their retirement years. Surviving are two sons, Richard J. (Holley) Bland, Jr., Randall J. Bland both of Bemus Point, NY; four grandchildren, Ross J. (Nissa) Bland of Greenhurst, Adrienne M. (Mike) Candiotti of Cortland, OH, Ramsey J. (Elise) Bland of Fluvanna, Reid J. Bland of Silver Creek, NY; and two great grandchildren, Rowan J. and River J. Bland. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard J. Bland, Sr. whom she married May 3, 1952 in Immanuel Lutheran Church and who died July 6, 2014 and two brothers, Nels G. Carlson and Richard W. Carlson. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. The Rev. Robert J. Kasting, pastor of the Immanuel Lutheran-Tree of Life Parish will officiate. Visitation will not be observed. Inurnment will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 556 East Second St. Jamestown, NY 14701.
