Obituary of David S. Spencer

David S. Spencer, 83, of 874 Cherry Hill Blvd. Erie, PA, formerly of Dutch Hollow Rd., Bemus Point, NY, passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2015, in the Veterans Administration Hospital, Erie, PA. A Jamestown, NY area resident for most of his life, he was born June 23, 1932 in Corry, PA; the only child of Smith and Ethel Fulom Spencer. He was a graduate of Corry Area High School, and earned his teaching degree from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1954. Dave proudly served his country and was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from January 4, 1955 to October 3, 1956. After college graduation, he owned and ran the Mayville Diner with his brother-in-law, Dale Waterhouse. He then taught at Eisenhower High School in Russell, Pa. Dave retired from Jamestown Business College where he taught, and later held the position of Dean. Dave was a long time school board member of the Bemus Point Central School District. He was also a founding member of St. Timothy's Lutheran Church in Bemus Point, and Christ Lutheran Church in Greenhurst, New York; serving in many positions such as Treasurer, Board Member, and working on the Braille program. Dave was also a member of the Ellery Memorial Post 947, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, and the Bemus Point Euchre Club. Surviving are his wife Diane Shimp Spencer whom he married July 19, 2009, a son, Scott (Julie) Spencer of Trophy Club, TX; grandchildren, Ryan and Alyssa, daughter, Sharon (Anthony) Martinez of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; grandson Jeremy, step-grandchildren, Frank and Jakob, daughter Susan (Michael) Hoag of Hartville, OH; grandchildren, Kimberly, Megan, Amy and Wade, son Daniel (Elizabeth) Spencer of Chagrin Falls, OH; grandchildren, Nathan and Emma, and granddaughter Amanda Spencer of Fredonia, NY. Also surviving are six step-children, Loraine (Douglas) Grube, Lisa Hart, Lynette (Scot) Watkins, William (Amy) Farrell, Michael (Alexandra) Farrell, Katherine Farrell. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife the former June Waterhouse Spencer whom he married September 10, 1955 and who died December 5, 2005 and a son David C. Spencer who died October 23, 2008. A memorial service will be held at a later date and time to be announced by the Lind Funeral Home.
