Obituary of Viola A. Maus

Viola M. Maus, 92, of 303 West Fifth St. Jamestown, passed away at 12:00 p.m. Monday, January 12, 2016, in W.C.A. Hospital. A lifelong area resident, she was born September 17, 1923 in Sinclairville, NY, a daughter of the late Elliott and Margaret Ramsey-Warnak Maus. Before her retirement years, she had worked for the former Jamestown Wholesale Grocery for 22 years and also was a Supervisor for the Chautauqua County Nutrition Program for several years. She later worked at the Lutheran Home for 8 years. Viola was a longtime member of the First Covenant Church where she taught Sunday school and was active in children's worship. She was also active in several women's groups including the Trailblazers, Frontier Friends and was past Treasurer of the Missionary Society. Surviving are a sister Florence Shattuck of Monroe, GA as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers, Lester, Laverne and Kenneth Maus and three sisters, Clara Sams, Lenora Hallberg and Isabelle Nelson. As per Viola's wishes there will be no formal funeral service or visitation observed. Inurnment will be in the Bemus Point Cemetery. Memorials in Viola's name may be made to the First Covenant Church, 520 Spring St. Jamestown, NY 14701.
