Obituary of Richard C. Hiller

Richard C. Hiller, Jr., 93, of 3249 Abbott Park Dr., Bemus Point, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2016 in WCA Hospital. He was born May 27, 1922 in Jamestown, a son of the late Richard C. and Genevieve Hollister Hiller. A graduate of Jamestown High School, he then served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II from 1942 to 1946. In earlier years, Dick owned and operated Hiller Radio which became Hiller TV. He was then employed by the former Jamestown Cable for many years, retiring in 1986 from the then named Teleprompter Cable TV. Dick was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ where he was active in the Minute Men Group. He enjoyed travel, having visited 49 of the United States and had been to Europe three times. A talented carpenter, he built his family's home, as well as many pieces of furniture, shelving and hydroplane boats. Dick also enjoyed snowmobiling and boating, belonged to the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, and in earlier years was active in Fluvanna Cub Scouting. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Georgia Dildine Hiller, whom he married August 8, 1948; four sons: Paul (Connie) Hiller of Fredonia, Brian (Sheryl) Hiller of Glendale, AZ, Mark Hiller of Jamestown and Warren Hiller of Glen Burnie, MD; ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert (Elaine) Hiller of Florida. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Webster and Olive Hiller. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Potts officiating. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service, from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
