Obituary of Samuel J. Agate

Samuel J. "Sam" Agate, 69, of Jamestown passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family on Sunday January 31, 2016 in the home of his sister following a brief illness. He was born July 14, 1946 in Jamestown the son of the late James S. and Mary C. Sapienza Agate. Sam was a 1966 graduate of Jamestown High School and was a US Army veteran serving as a Sergeant in Vietnam. He had worked at Weber Knapp, retiring in 2014. Previously he worked for Jacobson Weakley Olson for many years. Sam was a member of the War Vets and enjoyed playing Bingo and going to the Casino. Surviving are two sisters, Veronica "Ronnie" Lofecheck of Jamestown; Tonie Agate Love of Cleveland, OH; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Agate; three nephews, Bradley, Michael, and Clair Lofecheck; and his companion of 27 years, Nancy Birchman. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. The family wishes to send a special thank you to Hospice of Chautauqua County for their loving care during Sam's illness.
