Obituary of Joyce Brown

Joyce Brown, 88, long time resident of Jamestown and recently of Forest City, NC, died Monday February 1, 2016, in Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing. She was born May 29, 1927, in Kane, PA, a daughter of the late Fred and Mildred Olson Cook. While living in Jamestown she was employed by Truck Lite and Hartley Buick and after moving to North Carolina worked for O'Neal Motors, Raleigh, as a billing clerk. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Forest City and sang in their chapel choir. Joyce took great pride in taking care of her family. She hosted countless dinner parties and family gatherings. She enjoyed baking cookies and making jam with her grandchildren. Nobody could pass up her chocolate chip cookies. She will be remembered for her special knack of making any task she undertook turn out perfectly. Joyce loved the Lord and was always busy preparing to do His work. She was surrounded by her loved ones in her final hours Surviving are four children William Brown of Bemus Point, Robert (Debbie) Brown of South Carolina, Julie (Rick) Robbins of NC and Susan (Bob) Mellnik of North Carolina; a daughter-in-law Rhonda Brown of Falconer; nine grandchildren Chuck, Jim (Karen) and Karen Brown, Katie (Tim) Barker, Kimberly Brown, Kelly (Sonny) Broadstreet, Lindsay Robbins, Emily Mellnik and Michael Mellnik; four great grandchildren Noah Turzillo, Allie Brown, Bryson Barker and Lily Broadstreet and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Burton Brown, whom she married August 1946 and who died March 2005; a son James Brown in 2014; three brothers (Bud, Don, Gordy) and three sisters (Betty, Donna and Gloria). A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, March 5, 2016, at Gialy's Restaurant. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Forest City, Shut-In Ministry, 211 W.
