Obituary of Sam J. Nalbone

Sam J. Nalbone, 89 of Penfield, NY formerly of 114 Springdale Ave Jamestown, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2016 in Highland Hospital Rochester, NY. He was born August 5, 1926 in Jamestown the son of the late Fred and Helen Mattay Nalbone. Sam was employed at Dahlstrom Manufacturing Company for 18 years. In 1963, he was elected a business representative for the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, District 65. He was licensed to represent claimants in Workman's Compensation Court. In 1970, Sam was appointed Ombudsman for the City of Jamestown by Mayor Stanley Lundine. He served in this capacity until his retirement February, 1990. He served on the Welfare Board which later became the Social Service Board; Human Rights Board; Red Cross Board; Blue Shield Board; Visiting Nurses Board; United Way Board; Civil Service Commission; and was one of the founders of Jamestown Area Labor Management Committee. Sam was a member of the Jamestown Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors since 1965, and Past President and Chairman of Personnel. In 1976 he received the Meritorious Service award and in 1982 the Bronze Keystone award for 17 years of devoted board service. He was a member of the Jamestown Boys Club Alumni; Lakewood Rod and Gun Club; Eagles; Moose Club; past member of South Hills Country Club; and Maplehurst Country Club where he was Past President of the Board of Directors. In October 2015, at he and Allene's 70th anniversary party, Sam was presented the key to the City of Jamestown by Mayor Sam Teresi. Sam enjoyed golfing, Yankee baseball, and traveling. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He spent most of his last 10 years attending his great grandsons sporting events and being the loudest cheerleader there. Surviving are his wife, Allene Jacobson Nalbone whom he married October 20,1945; a daughter, Sandra (Craig) Olson of Rochester, NY; two sons, Carl (Robin) Nalbone of Long Beach, CA; Steven (Sherry) Nalbone of Franklin Lakes, NJ; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Jamie) Pucci of Fairport, NY; Steven (Brooke) Olson of Smyrna, GA; two great grandsons, Tyler and Sam of Fairport, NY; and a sister, Rose (Bennie) Cardinale of Jamestown. Visitation will be at Lind Funeral Home, Sunday, February 21, 2016, from 4:00 - 7:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at Lind Funeral Home, Monday, February 22, 2016, 11:00 am. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Jamestown Boys and Girls Club, 62 Allen Street, Jamestown, NY 14701.
