Obituary of Kay G. Anderson

Kay G. Anderson, 81, of 6026 Dole Rd. Panama, NY, passed away at 8:05 a.m. Friday, February 19, 2016, in his home following a brief illness. A lifelong area resident, he was born February 2, 1935 in Jamestown, NY the son of the late George and Donna Nystrom Anderson. Before his retirement years he was employed by the Corry Manufacturing Company in Corry, PA and also worked for Cummins Engine Company. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Snows Catholic Church in Panama, NY. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association, an avid coin collector and member of the Jamestown Coin Club, the Harmony Senior Citizens, the Jamestown Rifle and Pistol Club and the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club and the Corry Rod & Gun Club. He was also a avid Buffalo Bills fan. In 1976, he joined the New York Army National Guard where he was a member of the all guard smallbore rifle team for 20 years and he also participated in the high power rifle competition for the National Guard for 20 years. Kay was an accomplished rifle shooter and had been successful in every discipline of smallbore New York State rifle championships in sportrifle, three position indoor and outdoor, four position and international both indoor and outdoor. He won 14 New York State titles and had established 20 national smallbore records. He also won several championships both nationally and internationally shooting for the Jamestown Rifle Club and the Corry Rifle Club in the Northwestern League. Kay took great pride in mentoring and coaching the young shooters and taught them how to compete at a high level. For his shooting and coaching efforts he was inducted into the Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame in 1998. Kay also served on the Board of Directors for the Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame for many years. He was a avid outdoorsman where he loved shooting, golfing, running, hunting, gardening and spending time with his family around his home. Surviving are three sons Thomas Anderson of Atlanta, GA, George (Trudy) Anderson of Panama, NY, Dennis Anderson of Summerfield, FL, four daughters, Donna (Steve )Martin of Warner, NH, Mary (Brian) Pochatko of Sugar Grove, PA, Patricia (Duane) Kristensen of Ft. Knox, KY, Judith (Jamil Ghannoum) Anderson of Fredericksburg, VA, 20 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, two sisters, Patricia (Joe) Salvatore of Burt, NY, Geraldine (Charlie) Goldberg of LeRoy, NY and a brother Paul (Babette) Anderson of Conesus, NY. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife the former Marie Eileen Jordan Anderson whom he married September 15, 1956 and who died August 9, 2010 and a brother, Robert Brolinski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in Our Lady of Snows Catholic Church, Panama. The Rev. Piotr Zaczynski, pastor will be celebrant. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home.
