Obituary of Mariam L. Jenkins

Mariam L. Sword Jenkins, 92, of Winch Road, Lakewood, died on February 26, 2016, surrounded by her children and favorite furry child, Chester, who was her constant companion. She was born April 20th, 1923, on Brown Hill, Chandlers Valley, Pennsylvania, the youngest child of the late Ruby M. (Samuelson) & Henry V. Sword. She graduated from Sugar Grove High School in 1941 and married Eugene L. Jenkins on July 3rd, 1943. In the mid-1940's she worked at New Process Company and Marlin Rockwell. She was the heart and glue of the family, a homemaker, talented seamstress, knitter, woodworker, and family historian. The family thanks VNA, Hospice Chautauqua County, friends, neighbors, and coworkers for the care and kindness given in the last month of Mom's life. She is survived by seven children: Terry (Carol) Jenkins, Lakewood, NY; Jeffrey (Sharon) Jenkins, Lakewood, NY; Gena Jenkins, Ashville, NY; Beth (James) Ernest, Caledonia, MI; Julie Marsh, Kennedy, NY; Christine Jenkins, Jamestown, NY, and Jill (Randy) Johnson, Orlando, FL; twelve grandchildren: Christopher (Dawn) Jenkins, Louisburg, NC; Terry (Caty) Jenkins, Ashville, NY; Tina (David) Hanny, Fairport, NY; Todd (Paula) Jenkins, Jamestown, NY; Jessyca (Michael) Bernier, Ludlow, MA; Jonathan Jenkins, Chicago, IL; Miriam Ernest, Caledonia, MI; Samuel Ernest, New Haven, CT; Cody and Hannah Marsh, Kennedy, NY; Elizabeth (Jeffrey) Rauen, Kissimmee, FL; and Mitchell Johnson, Daytona Beach, FL; eleven great-grandchildren: Amber Collins,Tyler Jenkins, Lauren and TJ Jenkins; Drew and Ava Hanny; Carson and Emma Jenkins; Holden, Molly, and Tobin Bernier; Lyla Rauen; and by her beloved orange cat, Chester. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Eugene who died February 26, 2010; her siblings Elizabeth Lundgren, Charles Sword, and H. Grayson Sword; and a step great grandchild, James Collins. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. Burial will be in Chandlers Valley Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Sunday and for one hour prior to the service Monday in the funeral home.
